Vinyl vs. CD @ HD. Score sheets and music from A.C.A.
skaloumbakas replied to skaloumbakas's topic in Audio verleden
How about the videos??? he, he, he... -
Hi, Probably the most favourite subject between audiophiles around the world is the on-going "fight" between analogue and digital. Since the introduction of the CD in 1981 and after some years of the digital predominance, digital seems to have hit the technological roof and analogue is making a strong come back in the last 10 years. Personally all over these years I have made my comparisons with various material and I have concluded them in a paper at http://aca.gr/rec05_skal1.htm But some people were telling me that my old Wadia 8/15 pair was technologically outdated and so the comparison was not fair, so I decided to organize in my listening room a blind test between a top digital (whatever that means...) and my analogue gear, with lots of people invited... See the rest of this very interesting IMHO story here: - http://aca.gr/event08-9.htm (with lots of pictures and 10 videoclips covering the event). I hope you enjoy it...

Audio Tour (and not only...) recorded on video clips by A.C.A.
skaloumbakas replied to skaloumbakas's topic in Audio verleden
No problem. As I understood, somebody thinks this posting is spamming... Well, I wish I had time to contribute more to your forums... -
Hi, Another documentary (sort of... - compressed in 13 "mwv" files of 3-20 min. each) has been recently digitized by Audiophile Club of Athens. It is about A.C.A.'s invitation and visit to Constantinople - Turkey, for an Audio Tour (and not only...), on June 2000. It covers visits and auditions to 5 impressive audio systems, a joined meeting between A.C.A. and iHiFi, a live Jazz evening, sailling in Vosporos Sea, visits to the city, etc. An introductory page, explaining the visit with pictures and links to the video clips are included! Enjoy _____________________________ PS: I am just placing the direct link of the first one, which is the introductory video clip.

Hi all, We are very humbled indeed to announce the release of a documentary film about our Club and its members' "extreme" audio views, which has been filmed on March 2006 and has already received an enthusiastic welcome. Sorry, if some of you may have seen it already, as discussions are in progress in many Audio Forums around the world. What we would propose though, is a visit to the "who-when-why" page, which is highly informative and recommended! It contains pictures and film scenes, links to the protagonists' audio systems and 2 direct links (just in case one of them gets out of bandwidth...) to the documentary film itself! Enjoy... PS: The documentary is a 20 min .mov file, requiring the latest version of "QuickTime" and a speed Internet connection, if possible...

Recording of a large Orchestral Work!!!
skaloumbakas replied to skaloumbakas's topic in Audio verleden
I have no idea what are you discussing exactly, but thanks for your feedback. If you want to be informed 'properly', go at: http://www.bis.se/index.php?op=people&pID=556 (about the recent discography of the greater Greek contemporary composer NIKOS SKALKOTTAS). The reviews from all over the world are enthusiastic about the value of the composer they ignored him and his performances, until 10 years ago!!! -
Hi, 'MEGARON' Music Hall in Athens-Greece has started a series of recordings of Greek Classical Music Composers and the works that 6 members of A.C.A. witnessed recorded, were composed by Manolis Kalomiris (1883-1962) 'TRIPTICHON' (composed 1936), Symphony PALAMIKI and "2 GREEK DANCES". STATE ORCHESTRA OF ATHENS (ASO) was conducted by Byron Fidetzis. Musical recording assistant was Philippos Tsalahouris. The recording was performed by Themis Zafiropoulos and the recording team of the 'Megaron' Recording Center. This is also an historical moment, since this recording session was the first official recording towards discography of the best and oldest Greek Symphonic Orchestra! Read all about it in: http://aca.gr/event05-6_megaron.htm (extremelly recommended for serious audiophiles...) Subjects included: - About the Play... - The Recording Center Installation... - The Play & the Orchestra... - The Recording of the Orchestra... - 'MEGARON' Recording Equipment...

skaloumbakas replied to skaloumbakas's topic in Audio verleden
There have been updates to this paper and it is now finished (at last...) If you have time, please re-visit: http://aca.gr/paper37.htm (Heavy weight-high rotation magnetically suspended flywheel for a large mass magnetically suspended t/t platter!) Sorry for the 20 months delay... -

Hi all, Maybe this is not exactly a music review, since it involves comparisson between 2 source formats of various types of Music, but it is not exactly an audio... paper either. Never the less, the music I am referring to is very interesting, no matter if you have it recorded on vinyl or on an aluminum disc... The purpose of doing this is to face this old analogue vs.digital "war", from the point of the final acoustical experience and pleasure, listening to both formats - which is what matters anyway - and not from a technical point of view. We've had enough of this... Please visit: http://aca.gr/rec05_skal1.htm I wonder if members of these forums have the same experience with me or the oposite... Sorry to trouble you...

Hi, The following is an extreme design in my favourite analogue domain, which I thought I should share: Please, visit: aca.gr/paper37.htm, which is a paper (included in the http://aca.gr pages), mainly describing most of the technicalities of a huge flywheel design (turning at 375rpm for 33.33RPM) for a huge platter, both magnetically suspended (many pictures included). I am also taking the chance to review my whole analogue set-up, raising and analysing many subjects of an analogue system as a whole. So, I cover the following subjects: 1. The current state of the analogue set-up. ('aas gabriel', Swiss hand made t/t) 2. The description of the t/t elements. 3. The flywheel project. (My extreme DIY intervention...) 4. The finished analogue system set-up & accessories. Listening comments and concluding notes will follow soon, after the break-in period... Regardless of the extremism of the design, let me assure you that many of the included topics will sound familiar and clear up, (I hope), some of your queries you possibly have, regarding a good analogue set-up... I wish you all a very Happy New Year 2004.
