Hoe ik eraan gekomen ben destijds weet ik gewoon niet meer Gerne: Crossover-Jazz/pop-Jazz ect... Ben er even doorheen aan het bladeren,en ik geloof dat ie dan weer op z'n orginele plaats terug gaat Of,kan ik er iemand blij mee maken? --Hans. Het is een tribute to...album,maar toen ie nog in leven was,maar geeft dit album inens een andere betekenis. Er is grote zorg besteed aan de recording[gelukkig],en de vertolkingen mogen er zijn Hieronder de play-list,en dat zegt genoeg 1. Understand Your Man - Dwight Yoakam 2. The Koosjer connection Posted 22 september 2003 Report Share Posted 22 september 2003 Een van de weinige solo projecten van Sir.P die wel te pruimen zijn,en waarop enigzins zijn grote klasse als singer/songwriter weer door schijnen,al is het dan niet die glans van zijn hoogtij dagen. Hier de recentie; Released after the studied, meticulous Flowers in the Dirt,"..... the live acoustic concert album Unplugged was a breath of fresh air, and it remains one of the most enjoyable records in McCartney's catalog....." Running through a selection of oldies — not only his own, but Beatles and rock & roll chestnuts — McCartney is carefree and charming, making songs like "Be-Bop-a-Lula" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky" (which finds Paul melding Bill Monroe with Elvis) sound fresh. But the real revelations of the record are the songs McCartney hauls out from his debut — "That Would Be Something," "Every Night," and "Junk" — which sound lovely and timeless, restoring them to their proper place in his canon. Een tribute to the great Singer/Songwriter Woody Guthrie. Een appart album,en zeer zeker als je op de hoogte bent van het werk van Guthrie,en dus de moeite van het aanschaffen meer dan waard During the spring of 1995, Woody Guthrie's daughter Nora contacted British urban folk troubadour Billy Bragg about writing music for a selection of completed Guthrie lyrics. This was no minor task — Guthrie left behind over a thousand sets of complete lyrics written between 1939 and 1967 that had no music other than a vague stylistic notation. Bragg chose a number of songs to finish, as did Jeff Tweedy of the alt-country band Wilco (often with bandmate Jay Bennett). Nora Guthrie impressed a common goal upon them: Rather than recreating Guthrie tunes, they should write as if they were collaborating with Woody, creating new, vital music for the lyrics. Both artists completed more songs than could fit on Mermaid Avenue, which is neatly split between Bragg and Wilco, with Bragg taking lead on eight of the 15 songs. The results are almost entirely a delight, mainly because all involved are faithful to Guthrie's rowdy spirit — it's a reverent project that knows how to have fun. There are many minor, irresistible gems scattered throughout the album, and most of them come from Bragg. Where Wilco's fine contributions sound inextricably tied to the '90s, both for better and for worse, Bragg's music sounds contemporary while capturing Guthrie's folk traditions. That's not to say Wilco's contributions are failures — it's just hard to imagine Guthrie singing the plaintive "California Stars" or the plodding "Christ for President," neither of which quite fit the lyrics. Nevertheless, their hearts are in the right place; more often than not, they come close to the target, and their joyous playing invigorates Mermaid Avenue. The blend of Bragg's traditionalist sensibility and Wilco's contemporary style ultimately illustrates that Guthrie's words, ideals, and aesthetics remain alive in the '90s. The Walkabouts op hun best[na mijn mening] ******** Like Yo La Tengo's Fakebook, the Walkabouts' Satisfied Mind is a definitive artistic statement masquerading as a loose-knit collection of acoustic covers. Sometimes a group's selection of cover material, combined with their ability to make the songs their own, winds up revealing as much about their craft as their original music, and such is the case here; mining the work of diverse artists like the Carter Family, Gene Clark, Mary Margaret O'Hara, John Cale, and Nick Cave, Satisfied Mind represents the purest evocation to date of the Walkabouts' aesthetic and its standing at the crossroads of country, rock, folk, and punk. By casting well-known songs in an entirely new light — Patti Smith's "Free Money" becomes an ominous waltz, while Charlie Rich's "Feel Like Going Home" is renewed as an epic dirge — the album makes explicit all of the implicit connections in the Walkabouts' work. Unlike most tribute albums from the '90s, A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan isn't a lifeless collection of piecemeal studio performances — it's a fiery, living tribute, which is only fitting for a guitarist that shone intensely and brightly during his brief life. Recorded live in Stevie Ray's hometown of Austin, Texas, the album features many of Vaughan's idols, friends, and admirers ripping through his most famous numbers. Many of these musicians — including his brother Jimmie, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Buddy Guy — played with Stevie the night he died, which makes the record all the more poignant; also on hand are superstars like B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, and Art Neville. Although the memory and occasion remain bittersweet, the music on the album is simply teeming with life — everybody plays their heart out. Best of all are the collective jams at the end and the two new songs, "Six Strings Down" and "SRV Blues," which were written in Vaughan's memory. Ik kan er natuurlijk nog niet zoveel over zeggen na 1 keer luisteren (Meddle is bijna afgelopen), maar het valt zeker niet tegen. De reden dat ik Pink Floyd heb gedownload (idd, geen half werk ) is dat ik het hier wel vaak heb zien langs komen. En ook omdat er bij muziek die ik al wel ken, regelmatig wordt verwezen naar Pink Floyd (invloeden daarvan). Was dus zo langzamerhand wel een beetje nieuwsgierig geworden... Heb trouwens gisteren ook gelezen (ook op www.allmusic.com ) over Procol Harum. Daar ken ik ook maar 1 nummer van (ja, die... ) en het leek me wel interessante muziek. Maar toen ik zocht naar Procol Harum vond ik maar een paar nummers (op campusnet). Dus dat schiet niet echt op. Dus eerst maar eens Pink Floyd ontdekken. En daarna zien we wel weer verder... Een huisgenoot van mij heeft bakken met mp3's met allerlei ouwe meuk, maar Pink Floyd staat er niet bij (en Procol Harum dus ook niet). Wel een hoop Led Zeppelin, Doors, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Black Sabbath, AC/DC enz... Zelfs muziek uit de jaren '20 en '30.
