Toen dit album uitkwam was ik er zo door ingenomen dat ik een andere richting uitging met m'n keuze van muziek. En dat heeft er voor gezorgd dat er een hele nieuwe [ muziek ] wereld voor mij openging. Tot op de dag van vandaag ondek ik steeds weer nieuwe wegen. Alco Posted 17 april 2004 Report Share Posted 17 april 2004 Op dit moment klinkt door mijn PC: Deze dame Allison Moorer nu gevolgd door Fred Eaglesmith Maar via zo'n Blue Highways sample CDtje (voor slechts 3,- euro bij Plato) is 't allemaal wel leuk en aardig, maar vandaag ga ik ze toch maar "even" live bewonderen, tijdens 't jaarlijkse Blue Highways festival in Utrecht. Vergeet wat je weet van " live recordings ",zet je oren open en geniet! I think "Live at Martyrs" is a great album! To those that don't like the opening cut (Dirt Floor): the way it sounds is what happens when you take an 1930's National guitar which was NEVER EVER meant to be amplified, plug it into a little 1960's tube amp turned up to 9 or 10, and mic'ed with a mic hanging down in front of the amp by the amp's carrying handle. Then you add Chris playing the...whole thing, really digging into the strings. Mix that all together and you get "Dirt Floor." And that's what I like about it. It's SO punk rock! It's SO Nicolai Tesla! It's SO Albert Einstein. It's SO William Gibson! If it sounds a little rough, it's only because he's asking things of his gear that it would rather not do. And yet, he pulls it off with conviction. It's a soundman's worst nightmare, a serious trainwreck!! I like "Din of Ecstasy" for the same reasons I like this CD. Chris just doesn't play nice on that album and that's why it stands out to me. To me, this album is the same way. I like "Law" and "Dirt Floor" for different reasons. Each album of his is carried by a different vision and this one is no exception. I can't wait till "Hotel" comes out so I can hear the latest vision. It takes a very mature musician to craft a totally unique style. It takes even more to do it using equipment in ways other than it was intended. But then to do it without the slightest shred of timidity! This album is a clear showcase of how Chris Whitley has reached this pinnacle of musicianship. --Hans. This album is just this matter as a fact. Almost 'Ten Years After" i discovered this cd by a musicstore. The names are not familiar except Scott henderson of course. Try and buy it. What's live worth when you don't dare to take some changes in the Big CD-world. At home you'll experience a top-fusion-album. Sad but true! It's clear that the informationstream concerning new albums on Fusion, Funk, Jazzrock, Smooth Jazz and Jazz hasn't got a way to find this particular public! Time to change that! This Site can make the difference! This album is filled with rocky fusion and jazz. Guitarman Scott Henderson as soloist Scott Henderson. Well balanced solo's from drums, bassguitar, keyboards and guitars by Tony Zorzi. The compositions sound nicely and makes you a friend of the volumeghost for almost an hour. For good things there's always time. This album isn't the exception but just a victim of circumstance. 10 after now! Is music for today! 1992. Zal eens gaan zoeken/luisteren op internet. Op dit moment draait deze alvast even 'warm' via m'n PC (gisteravond voor maar 4,95 gekocht op Blue Highways festival in Utrecht, terwijl ie zelfs bij NLstore nog 19,75 moet kosten ) Ok, lang niet zo mooi als haar CD 'Lying to the moon', maar ach,...voor die 5 piek.
