Haar stem, techniek en interpretatie boden uitzicht op een mooie voortzetting van haar tienercarrière in jazz en blues. Tussen haar popsongs vonden we toen al jazz/bluesclassics als "St. Louis Blues", "Basin Street Blues", "Blues in the Night" en "Birth of the Blues". Maar het werd toch niet 't grote succes waar haar fans op hoopten... De commercie, ja. Weggevaagd door Yeah, Yeah, Yeah the Beatles. Hier als voorbeeld: "A Teenager Sings the Blues", "St. Louis Blues" en een stukje van "Basin Street Blues". Jeugdsentiment. Als ze zingt "finish up your coke", bedoelt ze werkelijk Coca Cola. Of Pepsi. Zo onschuldig waren wij toentertijd: Helen en ik...
