spido Posted 6 maart 2015 Report Share Posted 6 maart 2015 Eén van mijn meest geliefde LP's is die van het Carnegie Hall Concert van Cleo Laine in 1974. Haar éérste Carnegie Hall concert, dus. Maar doordat de plaat veel werd gedraaid en schoongepoetst - ook door bereidwillige anderen! - is hij behoorlijk beschadigd geraakt in die ruim veertig jaar. (De ergste beschadigingen werden echter al in 1982 aangebracht in het Amsterdamse Novotel, door de Dief van Haarlem.) De opname is in 1993 op CD uitgebracht, maar helaas niet in ons land. Het bleek erg moeilijk - en duur - om die CD-versie te bemachtigen. Maar het is nu gelukt! Wat nu opvalt? Eigenlijk alleen het ontbreken van de beschadigingen... en zo hier en daar een lichte pre-echo. (Zoals in "Bill" uit de musical Showboat.) Good riddance! De magnifieke articulatie en stemvoering van Cleo Laine, de geweldige begeleiding, de ambiance en sfeer van de zaal: alles is ook op CD piekfijn in orde. Ik werd hierdoor bevestigd in mijn oordeel dat een goede opname via een onbeschadigde LP of via een CD even goed kan klinken; als de afspeelapparatuur dat toestaat, althans. Members Arden Posted 8 maart 2015 Members Report Share Posted 8 maart 2015 (edited) Zojuist weer eens even in Delft geweest, dat leverde weer een paar mooie aanwinsten op: Muddy Waters - Folk Singer, mono op 2 x 45 RPM 200 grams vinyl (Analogue Productions) Ricky Lee Jones - Traffic from Paradise (200 grams Analogue Productions) Sonny Rollins Quartet - Tenor Madness, wederom 200 grams vinyl van Analogue Productions Van de week weer via een ander kanaal hiervan nog een 2e box gescoord, waarbij een paar goede vrienden wel erg hebberig werden, helemaal toen ik ze vertelde dat ik deze juist voor shows heb gekocht: David Gilmour - Live in Gdansk, de Colombia US persing uit 2008. Mag ik hier een virtueel kaarsje aansteken ter nagedachtenis aan wijlen Robert Shaw? Hij was een grootheid. Een èchte. Helaas een grootheid die we in Europa te weinig hebben gekend. Robert Shaw kon de zwaarste klassieke werken aan, maar hij bewoog zich ook heel lichtvoetig door de populaire muziek. Zo draai ik nog graag een CD-transcriptie van een RCA "Living Stereo" plaat uit de jaren vijftig door de Robert Shaw Chorale met liedjes van Stephen C. Foster: heel elegant en stijlbewust.
