PINK FLOYD PULSE DVD - US/CANADIAN EDITION ANNOUNCED

Pink Floyd's PULSE

coming on DVD...finally!

Further to our recent news about the long-awaited, and much delayed, 2DVD release of Pink Floyd's PULSE, we've today received the US/Canadian release date.

The release in that region on 6th December, sits between the UK (and certain European countries) release on 5th December, and the remaining regions release on 7th December (with the exception of Germany, which is on the 9th December). We know, from your emails, that many of you in North America have been waiting to hear when they might get their edition, so we are pleased to pass on this information. We also understand that a large marketing push will be launched to promote PULSE; it will be interesting to see what promo items are created (that will no doubt appear on eBay extremely quickly)!

PULSE is a recording from the band's run of 14 shows at London's Earl's Court, the final full concerts performed (to date). A lot of work has been done to improve the sound and picture quality, and to source a selection of suitable extras.

One of the common questions we've had is over the screen format. It is being presented in 4:3 format... attempts were made to create a good widescreen picture, but as it was originally shot in 4:3, this proved difficult. Decisions were then made to revert to 4:3 (standard television shape).

Along with the DVD menus and screens, the DVD cover has been designed by Storm Thorgerson, and will be a variation on the "balls" picture used to promote the 2003 Interstellar exhibition in Paris. It is a suitably intriguing image, similar to that shown in Storm's book "Mind Over Matter" but with some important differences. Brain Damage had a sneak preview of the cover last December, and it is nicely designed, front and back.

Pink Floyd's well-respected engineer James Guthrie has been the man looking after the surround sound mixes, and the new, Dolby Digital 5.1 remastered soundtrack reportedly sounds superb.

We know that you'll want to know what's been included, so without further delay, here's the detail:

It's very interesting to see how all the screen films have been included on the DVDs. This is something that many fans have been keen to see. From our point of view, it's great to see that the Money alien film is included - few people seem to have heard of this hilarious alternate version, and this is their chance to see it.

"Bootlegging The Bootleggers" seems to be a way at getting back at those who release unauthorised footage of the band in action - as we understand it, they have sourced audience-shot material of these tracks for inclusion. Ironically, Pulse is one of the biggest bootlegged titles on DVD, with loads appearing on eBay and other online sites each day.

With behind the scenes footage, a photo gallery, and the band's performance at the US Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony back in 1996, this new release promises to be a very interesting collection of material.

It is worth reiterating that any versions of Pulse currently being offered on DVD in various places worldwide, are all fakes. This includes copies that proport to be official limited edition pressings from a few years back.

This new edition can be ordered, with a discount, through the following special links: Amazon US/International, Canada, UK/Europe, or Germany. Any item bought through these links at Amazon (not just Floyd items) helps with the running costs of the site, and we really appreciate it.

Finally, we've had a load of questions about the DVD release of "Delicate Sound Of Thunder", getting emails about it every single week. The last we'd heard was that there are NO plans to release this on DVD, which is a pity as we know that there is plenty of demand out there. We presume though that PULSE is seen as superceding DSoT as a record of post-87 Floyd concerts... maybe one day they'll change their mind. If and when they do - we'll let you know!
